The ability to shoot and control long bursts, spray, is an essential skill for every Counter-Strike: Global Offensive player. Today, CS.MONEY Blog prepared a guide on how to control spray in CS:GO. Here, we show spray patterns for each meta weapon and name some recoil training maps that are best for practising spray control. Spray control in CS:GO? It easy!
What is spray in CS:GO?
CS:GO has several types of rates of fire: single shots, short bursts and long bursts. Firing with a long burst is called spray. Spraying is the most complicated type of shooting, as it requires not only aiming accuracy but also excellent recoil compensation from yourself. Otherwise, your shots will fly past the target, which, obviously, well end up pretty bad for you and your team.
How to control spray in CS:GO?
To control spray in CS:GO, you need to understand how spray and recoil work. During automatic firing, burst bullets will always follow a predetermined path. This is called a recoil pattern or spray pattern. If you move the mouse in the opposite direction from the recoil movement pattern, you can compensate it. Here you go, spray control and recoil basics in CS:GO.
Surely, there’s also an advanced version. In CS:GO, a weapon’s accuracy is affected by a player’s movement, but movement does not affect spray patterns. So if you control recoil well, you can move freely. When you stop, movement inaccuracy fades and your bullets will go exactly according to the recoil pattern.
How to learn spray and recoil patterns?
The best way to learn weapon spray patterns in CS:GO is to practice. Only by repeating over and over again until you’ve got decent muscle memory can quality recoil control be achieved. Luckily, there’s a ready-to-use solution. In fact, many of them: CS:GO Workshop already has dozens of maps for recoil control practice. Just subscribe to any map you like in the Steam Workshop and launch it from the menu.
Best recoil and spray control training maps
As we said, Steam Workshop has numerous training maps for recoil and spray control. But we picked some of the maps that gained fame and recognition in the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive community. We have the three best maps for spray control and recoil training in CS:GO.
- Recoil Master. As the name suggests, this map is all about mastering your recoil control skills. There are several training modes to choose from. Surely, it has all guns to practice and a couple of targets with various difficulties.
- Yprac Recoil Trainer. Another map for recoil control training. It’s more advanced and offers more settings and different types of exercises. Here, you can train recoil for all guns.
- Aim Botz. This map is also suitable for recoil control practice, although it doesn’t have specific tools to do it. Here, you have Attack and Defence player models instead of targets, and they can stand still or move, as you wish. It’s a great way to practice spray control in realistic conditions.
Spray and recoil patterns for CS:GO guns
Before heading out to practice, let’s look at how every recoil and spray pattern for most CS:GO guns. We listed them in one place and provided with GIFs.
AK-47 Recoil Spray Pattern
This is probably the most important recoil or sprays to learn. AK-47 is the leading weapon for the attacking side, so remembering AK’s spray pattern is very important. Yes, this is quite a difficult task to learn and requires a lot of practice, but due to its armour-piercing ability, AK-47 in the hands of a knowledgeable and trained player is imbalanced.
M4A4 Recoil Spray Pattern
So, even if the CS:GO community still can’t decide whether М4А4 is the new meta or not, it’s still an essential CT gun. You better know the M4A4 recoil pattern. Here it is:
M4A1-S Recoil Spray Pattern
And this is how the Silencer bursts. M4A1-S’s spray is the easiest recoil pattern to learn of all weapons in CS:GO. However, this is due to a combination of high damage numbers, a medium rate of fire, and a tiny magazine.
Galil Recoil Spray Pattern
Next in line, we have two budget weapons made for eco rounds. It’s pretty hard to control Galil’s spray if you don’t know where the barrel will take you. But this GIF will help!
FAMAS Recoil Spray Pattern
FAMAS’s spray looks like some French person’s signature, which is quite peculiar. But you better hit your enemy with the first couple of bullets, or things could get messy.
P90 Recoil Spray Pattern
Players like to buy a P90 and go rush. And spray a lot, hoping (and begging) that their shots will either hit their targets first, or the opponents will run out of bullets. You know, there’s a reason for a folk saying of “Spray and pray”…
AUG Recoil Spray Pattern
AUG’s spray is quite simple on the first shots, but then it becomes very difficult to control. Apparently, it’s better used at long distances. AUG recoil pattern:
SG 553 Recoil Spray Pattern
SG553 is a very powerful yet very expensive gun. As well as AK-47, you can click heads with it easily. The only thing is that it costs too much, and its recoil pattern is pure madness.
Summary
Learning how to control spray and recoil in CS:GO is a very difficult task. You need to spend hours, or even tens of hours, training and practising each gun. But these exercises pay off in full because the ability to spray and control recoil can be vital in many game situations.
