Last night, Valve presented another update for Counter-Strike 2. While the changelog is brief, we eagerly anticipate how our favourite game will work since August, 3rd. In this article, CS.MONEY Blog will cover the changes in the game as well as some CS2 leaks from data miners.
Despite Counter-Strike 2 being in the closed testing phase and not accessible to everyone, you don’t have to wait for the game’s release to play with cool skins. Go to CS.MONEY Trade and easily update your inventory, which will carry over to the new version of Counter-Strike!
New CS2 Maps: Ancient and Anubis are now in the game!
Valve replaced Vertigo and Overpass in matchmaking with Ancient and Anubis. Both maps are relatively new, so significant changes were not required. The main update is the water rendering on both maps, but we’ll discuss that further.
Interestingly, among the current competitive map pool, only Inferno has yet to make an appearance in Counter-Strike 2. It’s also worth noting that Inferno was not presented in the announcement trailer. However, Train was featured. Perhaps a replacement is in plans? Since the first CS2 Major is still far away, there is plenty of time for adaptation if such a change does occur.
CS2 Updated Water Procedures
Both Ancient and Anubis include important areas with water. By looking at the changelog, the main aim of this update may have been to introduce and test water physics in the game. Now, when weapons are dropped into water, they make different splash sounds, and the sound of interaction between water and a grenade is different. However, the most significant change is that chickens can now swim in water! It may not impact gameplay, but it adds an aesthetic touch. In real life, chickens can swim, but they do it poorly and not for long.
Bomb Inspection, Wingman Mode Disabling, and Other Changes
For those who love the “Wingman” mode, Valve has temporarily disabled it, but it’s likely just a temporary measure as the mode is quite popular. Another exciting change is that the C4 now has an inspection animation. Are we expecting skins for it? Finally, developers have improved some head and leg movement animations while traversing the map.
Dataminers Leak New CS2 Stuff
New CS2 Matchmaking
New Matchmaking? According to the community’s findings, Valve seems to be seriously working on the matchmaking system. Big changes appear to be coming for Premier matchmaking. Counter-Strike will probably get an updated ranking system, seasons, and a leaderboard similar to Dota 2.
New Rating System
For Valve, observing successful features from third-party services and incorporating them is not new. Here, developers might be interested in the popularity of platforms like FaceIT and want to introduce a unified ladder system similar to Dota 2. The idea looks very promising, but we’ll have to wait for official announcements.
Player’s Tutorial in CS2
Also, Valve is likely working on preparing newcomers for the competitive environment. This could involve matches with bots or some training missions, but the main point is that Counter-Strike 2 is generating hype, and many newcomers will want to try it. If Valve manages to retain these players, everyone will benefit.
In any case, it’s already evident that the developer is putting serious effort into Counter-Strike 2, and the game has a promising future ahead. We will continue to follow the evolution of our beloved game.
