FAMAS has received a buff in Counter-Strike 2. It’s now cheaper and more accurate. Is it worth buying the French assault rifle now, or should you continue purchasing the MP9 instead? The CS.MONEY Blog breaks down the changes and explains how to play with the new FAMAS.

New FAMAS in CS2. What has changed?
The development team made two changes:
- Price reduced to $1950 (previously $2050)
- Increased accuracy: The rifle is now about 25% more accurate.
The price change is straightforward. The weapon is a bit more affordable for defense, meaning it’s easier to afford during forced-buy rounds. The accuracy change is a bit more complex, so let’s dive into that.
In CS2, weapon accuracy is measured in meters. This represents the distance at which the weapon hits the target within a 30-centimeter diameter. Simply put, this is the distance where a headshot is almost guaranteed if you aim for the center of the head. Before the buff, the FAMAS had a maximum accuracy range of just under 15 meters, but now it extends to just under 19 meters.
While this increase may seem small, it has a big impact on gameplay. Before the buff, the FAMAS was less accurate than even some pistols and SMGs. Now, it’s more accurate than the Galil AR and only slightly less accurate than the AK-47.
How to play with the New FAMAS?
Start with the most important thing: FAMAS is a weapon to use when you don’t have enough money for an M4. There’s no point in buying it during standard buy rounds. But even when you don’t have enough for an M4, that doesn’t mean you should always grab the FAMAS. It has a strong competitor in the form of the MP9.
Here’s a small guide on when to choose the FAMAS over the MP9:
- Forced-buy rounds and defensive roles: Thanks to the increased accuracy, the FAMAS is better suited for mid-range combat than the MP9.
- Full buy rounds but lacking funds for an M4: For $3500, you can’t afford an M4, body armor, and grenades. But if you swap the M4 for the FAMAS, you’ll stay within your budget and still play the round with a rifle.
- Second round after winning the first one by defusing the bomb: In this case, the attacking team might have enough for several Galil ARs, and the FAMAS is easier to handle against that weapon than the MP9.
In all other cases, it’s better to go for the MP9. If the enemy is having an eco round, the double kill bonus is great for farming. Also, when you’re playing short-range areas, like holding apartments on Inferno, the MP9 is ideal.
FAMAS Spray Control in CS2
The FAMAS has more recoil than the M4, so it’s harder to control. At mid-range, limit yourself to firing 3-4 shots in a burst, as the first four shots stay relatively tight and deal significant damage. At close range, you can fire bursts of up to 8 shots. The first eight shots are easy to control, as the recoil is almost entirely vertical with slight horizontal deviations.
Lastly, never use the alternate fire mode. The rate of fire in this mode is lower, controlling recoil is nearly impossible, and even three shots to the body without armor won’t kill a target with full health. The only time you should use the alternate fire mode is to troll your opponents and show off your superiority.

The FAMAS, even after the buff, remains a situational weapon. However, there are now many more situations in which it performs well. Of course, if you can afford it, prioritize the M4 over the FAMAS whenever possible. And don’t forget to check out CS.MONEY for skins.
