Counter-Strike 2 is released! What has changed?

CS:GO is dead, long live CS2! A new era of our beloved game has dawned! Valve decided not to continue the closed beta test and simply replaced the CS:GO client with a new version. In this article, the CS.MONEY blog will share the most important nuances about the game release.

In Counter-Strike 2, all CS:GO skins have been transferred, so you don’t have to wait for new cases to play in style. Click the link, use our filters to find your perfect skin, and use your easy way to update your inventory!

New Drop System

One of the major innovations in CS2 that immediately caught attention was the revamped drop system. On the one hand, the basic principles remain the same: you play, earn experience, and receive drops upon levelling up.

What’s different? There’s less randomness now. You are given four options, and you can pick two. Yes, you can’t influence which options appear, but you can still decline, for example, graffiti if you already have too many or a specific skin you dislike. So, hoping for something cool in the weekly drop is still not very promising. It’s much easier to visit the CS.MONEY market and easily buy gorgeous skin.

The Race for Leaderboards Begins!

With the launch of Counter-Strike 2, the first season of competitive matchmaking officially started. The leaderboard will be a great incentive for young talents to play because your nickname is visible to everyone if you are in the top ranks, and this way, you can get noticed. It’s an excellent preparatory stage for professional and semi-professional scenes.

No Release Content

Let’s talk a bit about unfulfilled expectations. The community thought that with the transition to Counter-Strike 2, developers would immediately introduce new content, whether it be new maps, cases, or operations. However, the only content change was that CS:GO veterans received a special badge and a music pack. Otherwise, we can only talk about the fact that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive disappeared from Steam. You can even still buy stickers from the major in Paris!

Of course, it’s not in Valve’s tradition to reveal all their cards right away, so let’s wait for further game development.

Farewell, Danger Zone?

One strange and negative aspect for some players is that with the release of CS2, they lost the ability to play Danger Zone. This mode was niche but had its fans. Hopefully, this is temporary, and the battle royale will return to Counter-Strike soon.

Server Issues

Perhaps the main problem was servers. Valve didn’t fully anticipate the number of players who jumped into CS2, and in some regions, server load was at its limit, affecting game quality. Interestingly, in an update on Friday night, Valve disabled the GOTV so that “more people can play.”

In Conclusion

Anomaly expressed an interesting opinion on Twitter:

There is something in such a position. However, the community itself had built up high expectations for CS2, and this disconnect also plays a role. Valve seems to have a strategy, and they are sticking to it. We are left to explore the new world of Counter-Strike 2, and fortunately, there’s plenty to explore. And certainly, the release of CS2 can’t compare to what CS:GO was like at its launch.
