CS:GO players learn information about skins not only by their appearance but also by the card in the inspection menu. The most important lines, Wear Rating and Pattern Template, need no introduction as you catch them instantly. But what do Finish Catalog and Finish Style mean? In this article, CS.MONEY Blog analyses skin cards and answers what these lines mean.

Choose the sellers with the fastest transaction times by the filters in the new section of the site — Market!

What is that anyway?

Still, you might’ve noticed the Finish Catalog line: it has numbers, but only some people can tell what they mean. These numbers are assigned to each skin but not to weapons. For example, Case Hardened is #44, and each gun will have #44 signed in its line of skins.

Finish Catalog for Case Hardened Five-SeveN and Karambit skin are the same.

However, this doesn’t apply to some: Crimson Web CZ75-Auto is #12, while the same-designed SCAR-20 is #232.

Finish Catalog differs for Crimson Web CZ75-Auto and Crimson Web SCAR-20.

CS:GO has more than 1000 Finish Catalog values, with the latest being The Traitor on USP-S and one of the oldest being Candy Apple, #3.

Finish Style and its variants

Finish Style speaks for itself: how the skin was applied.

Finish Style line is the first one on the card.

There are nine in total, and each has an official description from Valve:

  1. Solid Color: weapon components are painted in different colours before assembling (up to four). (Candy Apple, Sand Dune, Bulldozer);
  2. Spray-Paint: weapon is spray-painted with multiple coats through stencil patterns. (Safari Mesh, Predator, Radiation Hazard);
  3. Hydrographic Style: disassembled weapon parts are lowered through a floating hydrographic film on the surface of a water tank. The film adheres to the primed weapon parts, covering the surface with a pattern. (Pit Viper, Forest DDPAT, Laminate);
  1. Anodized: many common firearms materials cannot be anodised. Instead, the effect is often mimicked by applying a coloured candy coat over a chrome base.. (Hot Rod, Anodized Navy);
  2. Anodized Multicolored: the candy coat may be applied in a multicoloured pattern. In the real world, methods could include silk-screening or adherable stencils. (Blue Phosphor, Carbon Fiber, Army Sheen);
  3. Anodized Airbrushed: emulates applying the candy coat via freehand airbrushing. (Fade, Blaze);
  1. Patina: a patina is a chemical reaction that forms a non-reactive, hardened shell over metallic parts. Real-life weapon patinas include case hardening, cold bluing, and acid forced patinas. (Case Hardened, Blue Steel, Brass);
  2. Custom Paint Job: extremely customised looks in a full range of colours (Asiimov, Neo-Noir, Redline);
  1. Gunsmith: uses a combination of patina and custom paint styles. (AWP Prince, AK-47 Fuel Injector, M4A4 The Emperor).

Pattern Template

Pattern Template is one of the card’s main lines, showing the pattern number. It’s one of the 1000 areas on the pattern texture that is applied to the weapon. One thousand in total, numbered not from 1 to 1000, as many people think, but from 0 to 999. First promo code for GameChanger Hub: 1WAWS4.

Pattern Template string has 0 min and 999 max.

Dropping chance is the same for all of them, but CS:GO players value some more than others. For example, as with Case Hardened: the pattern is a decider here.

This is how the Case Hardened pattern applies to Karambit.

Wear Rating

Wear Rating shows has worn is a  weapon finish in numbers. Factory New has 0 – 0.07, Minimal Wear is 0.07-0.15, Field-Tested scales from 0.15 to 0.38, Well-Worn sits between 0.38-0.45, and Battle-Scarred is the rest, from 0.45 to 1. Wear Rating can be close to 0 or 1, but never equal to it.

Thus, the skin with the all-time lowest float once has been M249 Gator Mesh 0.0000000008. This is the only skin in the world whose float contains nine zeros after the dot!

On the other side, there are six skins with the highest float, 0.9999998. Unlike nine zeros for a low float, a high one has only six nines in a row. This increases the chance of generating a skin with the same maximum float, which happened several times. Maths!

If a skin’s float doesn’t start with many repeated zeros, CS:GO automatically reduces it to nine digits after the dot. Here’s a comparison of the #1 float skin card and a usual one:

Wear Rating is the #1 float in the game.

But even so, it still needs to be fully displayed. Csgoexchange.com allows you to see all the twenty digits after the dot. Second promo code for GameChanger Hub: 6K2JT2.

No other game compares to CS:GO when it comes to skins. Skins’ cards may reveal a lot of info about your favourite gun in the inspection menu. Now, you can tell more about skins by viewing their cards.
