Valve has just officially announced Counter Strike 2. This is no joke. The developers released the first gameplay videos with CS on Source 2 and also explained the new tick rate systems, graphics, how dynamic grenades work, told about skins, and much more. CS.MONEY Blog has collected information and trailers in one place.
How new grenades work in CS 2
The video below presents the new mechanics of how grenades work (but they still follow the old laws of physics).
- Now all players see the same smoke (previously, it could be displayed differently on different clients)
- Now the smoke grenade fills all the curves around where it will blow
- Smokes disperse from bullets and grenade explosions
Here’s how the bullets go through smoke in Counter Strike 2.
What will happen to CS:GO skins in Counter Strike 2
Everything’s fine. On the official update website, Valve promised to transfer all skins from CS:GO to the new game.
“Bring your entire CS:GO inventory with you to Counter-Strike 2. Not only will you keep every item you’ve collected over the years, but they’ll all benefit from Source 2 lighting and materials. In addition to supporting legacy models and finishes, all stock weapons have been upgraded with high-resolution models, and some weapon finishes take advantage of these new models.”

Subtick system in CS2: what does it mean? (sub-tick rate)
As we wrote in the previous article, Valve will still release a sub-tick system on Source 2.
The developers explain that “the subtick structure is the basis of Counter-Strike 2”. If earlier the server accepted and compared information between the ticks (frames) of each player and the server, which affected the millisecond level, now the in-game servers themselves will try to predict events and then compare them with real facts. “The new architecture allows Counter-Strike 2 server to know instantly when you take a step, fire a shot, or throw a grenade.” The developers promise more responsive actions (shooting and grenades, as well as movement).
Better sounds
Valve, among other things, promise to fix the sound and bring it to a new level. We know and understand how important this is for the game!
CS2 will bring the new-but-old maps
There is nothing special to say here; they just promise completely redesigned maps for CS2. The video will show better than anything. In short, all maps look more detailed now and a little brighter than before. It’s cool, isn’t it?
CS2 closed beta: how to get the invitation
Basically, getting an invitation to Counter-Strike 2 closed beta is random. Most of the popular CS:GO personalities and pro players received it, and The Closed Beta is already live. But you could’ve also gotten an invite, just be sure to log into CS:GO and check if you have been given the invitation to participate in the beta test of a new game.
Counter-Strike 2 Release Date
Valve promise to release Counter Strike 2 in the summer of 2023. Most likely, this will happen between huge tournaments, but after the Major. Let’s wait!
