The CS.MONEY blog is here to cover the most important events of the past week. Today in the spotlight: departure of Evil Geniuses’ coach, new CS:GO update, and more.
First matches on Ancient
Last week saw the beginning of IEM Summer 2021. This is the first championship where Ancient replaced Train. Yet the very first match on the new map was played the day before the tournament started.
On June 1, Sangal and Anonymo played on Ancient in ESEA Premier Season 37 Europe. Sangal won on the map 16-14, the total score being 2-1.
As for tier-1 matches, several teams have already tried out the new map at the IEM Summer group stage. Ancient was played five times. The map is currently the most balanced one out there, with 50.4% of rounds won by the defense and 49.6% by the attack.
Coldzera leaves FaZe
The last week’s key reshuffle is definitely the departure of Marcelo “coldzera” David from FaZe Clan. The Brazilian player had been part of the squad for more than a year and a half. He joined the roster in the fall of 2019.
During his entire time on the team, coldzera won two tournaments: BLAST Pro Series Copenhagen 2019 and IEM New York 2020. It remains to be seen which team the hot Brazilian guy will join next. Leave your assumptions in the comments.
Zews leaves Evil Geniuses
Wilton “zews” Prado, too, left the team that he’d represented for a long time. Zews joined EG last April. With Wilton on board, the American roster won three trophies. The main accomplishment of Evil Geniuses together with its former coach is the first line in the HLTV ranking last September.
Zews’ career in Evil Geniuses ended with last place at cs_summit 8. Notably, the American squad managed to reach the IEM Summer 2021 playoffs without the Brazilian coach.
Highlight of the week: Ax1Le v. Astralis
Last week’s highlight was the ace by Gambit’s rifler Sergey “Ax1Le” Rychtorov against Astralis. It was a group stage match at IEM Summer 2021. Sergey masterfully engaged the Danish five on Inferno’s A Site. After that ace, Astralis took only two rounds in this winning streak. Eventually, the match ended 2-0 in favor of Gambit.
FURIA welcomes new coach
Last week, Marcos “tacitus” Castillo, former Triumph coach, joined Brazil’s first team, FURIA. The Cougars now have two coaches at once. Besides the newcomer, Nicholas “guerri” Nogueira remains on the team too.

Honda replaces junior in FURIA
The arrival of a new coach isn’t the only change that’s recently happened to the FURIA roster. Paytyn “junior” Johnson, who joined the team in January this year, left the active roster last week. A sixth player, Lucas “honda” Cano, was invited to the squad to replace Paytyn.
Prime now only paid for
On the night of June 4, Vavle released an update for CS:GO. Now, you can’t take part in ranked matches without a Prime account. To add to it, the devs disabled the ability to get a Prime account free after reaching level 21. A Prime account can only be bought now.
The dev team removed the ability for non-Prime accounts to receive after-match cases and skins, earn experience, and receive ranks. For non-Prime players, unranked modes were added: 5 v. 5, Wingman, and Danger Zone will be available for them. They’ll only play against non-Prime opponents in matches.
Valve based this decision on the fact that many players had used illegal software and interfered with fair players in matchmaking and other modes. The developers noted that if a player got a free Prime account for reaching level 21, it will preserve its Prime status after the upgrade.
