We already predicted that new things can be expected from the CS:GO skins. Some of our assumptions, like holographic skins, have already come true, while others are still waiting in the wings. Against the background of recent rumors around the transition of CS:GO to the new version of Source, we decided to once again return to this topic. What can Valve please us with in 2020?
Skins for Bombs
Formally, the game already has skins for C4 – during the winter events, all players have a special look for explosives. However, it is impossible to add it to the inventory. Craftsmen among fans of the game have already implemented several concepts, for example, a skin was created for C4, which repeats the appearance of an explosive package from the game trailer.
Unlike agents, for Valve it’s a safe move. Changing the color of C4 does not affect the competitive mode. Unlike agents, explosives themselves blink, squeak, and even light up. Another interesting feature is to add the StatTrak feature to C4. Isn’t it interesting to know how many sluggish defenders were blown away by the spawn?
Keychains for weapons
Another weapon customization option that will not affect the competitive balance. Similar “trinkets” are already implemented in many other shooters, for example, R6 Siege or Apex Legends. More interestingly, CS:GO already has a base for implementing this functionality.
We are talking about medals that can be earned in 5 years in the game or successful completion of operations. Now it’s just useless items in the inventory, but nothing prevents them from being attached to weapons and allowing players to display their favorite badges.
A similar idea was suggested by Twitter user @Seb_Haglund. He implemented the concept of trinkets on the ring of a safety check. It looks very nice, it remains to convince Valve to add this to the game and not turn it into consumables like graffiti.
Partially animated skins
You can find several fully animated skins in the Steam workshop. They look funny and problematic. The constantly shimmering looped skin pattern noticeably strains the eyes and distracts. A solution to this problem can be seen in the already mentioned Apex Legends.
This battle royale runs on the deeply modified Source engine, which means Valve should have no problem copying the implementation. The fact is that the rarest skins in Apex Legends are partially animated. Thanks to this solution, only part of the skin is animated, it does not draw attention to itself and retains an excellent appearance.
Any other ideas?
