MP9: Strong and Weak Sides
MP9 SMG in CS2 is only available to CT side. In professional matches, this weapon is very popular among esports players. It’s second only to the meta trio of AK-47, M4A1-S and AWP, remaining on the same level of popularity as Deagle and Galil AR. All because MP9 has five strong sides.
- Availability. MP9 is one of the cheapest weapons in its class. Only $1250 seems perfect for an anti-eco or when buying with a bad economy.
- Mobility. MP9’s movement speed is 240 units per second. You can only run faster with a knife, C4 or a grenade in your hands.
- Rate of Fire. MP9 fires at a rate of 857 rounds per minute. This is not just fast, it is VERY fast.
- Accuracy on the Move. MP9 maintains good accuracy while moving. Even on the run, you can drop headshots at a distance of up to 5 meters and easily hit the body at a distance of 12-13 meters.
- Economic benefits. Each frag from MP9 brings a reward of 600 dollars(!), not the usual 300. This helps to strengthen the economy, and in combination with the low cost of the weapon, quickly gets your money back.
MP9’s strengths are offset by a couple of peculiarities. First, MP9 has low damage, only 26 units per shot against an unarmored enemy. With armor, the damage drops almost twice. Second, the recoil quickly becomes uncontrollable. Becomes very difficult to compensate after the seventh shot.
When to Buy MP9 in CS2
MP9 has two scenarios of use. First and foremost, against the enemy’s eco-round. This fast-firing SMG with double frag reward and a low price is literally the best thing you can have for such rounds. No other explanation needed, no rivals in terms of weapons exist currently. Just pick it against an eco in 10 out of 10 scenarios.
Second option is a forced buy but when you go for close positions. In such a scenario, it’s very important to aim for headshots, and not just one, but two at once. Only two hits to the head from MP9 guarantee a kill at a distance of up to 20 meters, and if farther, you need three hits: two to the head and one to the body. Remember, MP9 is strongest at close range, you should not engage in a firefight at a distance. This significantly reduces the chances of success.
What’s Better: MP9 or MP7?
What’s better: MP9 or MP7? MP9. Always MP9. This gun is cheaper and more accurate, you move much faster with it, there’s almost no difference in damage. The main advantage of MP7 is that its recoil is easier to control. But if you want to win, it is better to spend time training and learn how to shoot the MP9.

Summary
MP9 is a budget but powerful submachine gun. It’s great for the second round. You can also buy this weapon if you don’t have enough money for M4s. Just remember this: when playing with MP9, close the distance and use short bursts, no more than 3-4 shots. If your enemy has armor, you need to aim for the head and land at least two shots into it in a row as quickly as possible. Good luck!
