What is Steam Points Shop?
In 2020, Valve introduced a new mechanic for Steam. Users earn special points based on money spent on the platform and some other actions. You can spend these points for profile customization. If you’re an active Steam user, at some point, you won’t even notice how many of these you get because there aren’t too many customization options. If you don’t spend all your points, they start accumulating over time. And to get a CS2 animated avatar/pfp, you will have to use these points.
How can you customize your Steam profile?
Open the Points Shop. You can see several tabs:
- Avatar. Here, you can set a purchased avatar and its frame.
- Profile background.
- Mini-profile. The mini-profile pops up when someone hovers over your nickname in Steam.
- Special profile. Essentially a combination of the three things above, automatically aligning everything in a unified theme.

How to set up an animated avatar/pfp in Counter-Strike 2?
It’s easy to set an animated pfp/avatar in Steam and CS2. First, note that you can’t use just any GIF file: only those available in Steam Points Shop. This significantly limits you, but even so, Steam can offer a dozen cool options for your animated avatar.
Navigate to Points Shop, go to Avatars, and purchase whatever profile pic you like. Then, go to Steam -> Profile -> Edit. Click the Edit button, go to Avatars again, select what you would like better, and Save it. This is how you can get an nimated avatar in CS2!
