Did you know there are two versions of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in the World? One is original worldwide, and the second was made exclusively for Chinese players. And these versions significantly differ. CS.MONEY Blog tells what CS:GO looks like in China and what had to be changed so that the game would not violate local laws.
Even though skins in China may look different, the easiest way to buy or exchange them from any country in the world is CS.MONEY Trade.
Map Changes
Localization changes meet players already in the tutorial. Yeah, if you didn’t know, CS:GO has a training course. And some speedrunners are even competing to set records on it. The Training Course in the Chinese version of the game has updated textures with localized text: instead of inscriptions in English, it is translated into Chinese.
You can also find differences on some competitive mode maps. For example, on Cache, which has long left the Major map pool, the Soviet symbols and warning signs with skulls have been removed. And Plant B suffered the most: the legendary and massive coat of arms was removed from the wall, leaving only a shadow. As if the textures can’t load. Cheap work, to be honest!
Dust 2 and Mirage also got reworked. Both maps in the original version of the game have a lot of inscriptions in Arabic. Even the Goose speaks this language, but not in China. In the Chinese version of Dust 2, most of the Arabic inscriptions were simply erased, and some were replaced with texts in another language.
Pins and Stickers
Skulls are pretty common in CS:GO. For example, the Crown sticker is a skull with a crown. In China, such items have been replaced. The most interesting case happened with Operation Bloodhound. Instead of a hound’s skull, Perfect World drew a dog’s paw. And to be honest, the vibe also changed. Now it looks more like a canine sports club logo because it depicts a dog’s paw and two knives.
The operation logo has been replaced everywhere: keys, cases, operation coins, and even gloves and pins. By the way, some other pins, not only from Operation Bloodhound, have also been reworked. Aces High and Dust 2 were updated: the skeleton was replaced by a poker hand in the first case, and in the second, two crossed knives took the place of the skull.
And speaking of other stickers with skulls or bones. Usually, they are replaced with gas masks. But, for example, on Emperor (Foil) from the Warhammer 40,000 capsule, the skull was removed and replaced with… an empty space. But… skulls are one of the main features of the WH universe…
Music Packs
CS:GO boasts almost 70 music kits. And six of these received updated covers in the Chinese version of the game. Here they are:
- Blitz Kids, The Good Youth
- Dren, Death’s Head Demolition
- Jesse Harlin, Astro Bellum
- Robert Allaire, Insurgency
- Sean Murray, A*D*8
- Skog, II-Headshot
Obviously, these music kit covers contain skulls or bones. It still sounds the same, though. Anyways, speaking of blood, skulls and knives, these symbols have been reworked on achievement icons too. Instead of skulls, we see gas masks or crosshairs.
Models
Some changes are not clear at all at first glance. Danger Zone enjoyers must’ve seen dollar bills stacks more than once. Basically, they look just like in GTA: a stack of banknotes tied with a ribbon. But not in China. Instead of dollars, they have just painted over one-colour brick models. There is also a bag with the dollar sign, and PW changed it: the sign was removed, and the bag was repainted.
Changes also affected character models. The Separatists from Inferno got reworked stripes on their shirts: in the Chinese version of the game, there is a golden lightning bolt instead of a big star.
Moreover, the Chinese version of CS:GO has seen not only maps, stickers, pins, models and music kits changed but also skins. Remember M4A4 Desolate Space? They lowered the visor to cover the dead astronaut’s skull. But we will talk about this in the following article! Visit our Blog and CS.MONEY more often to update your skins easily.
