How to Play CS2 with a Friend?
For most players, using Steam and the in-game interface is sufficient: just right-click to invite your buddy to the party and off you go, conquering matchmaking or community servers. But what if you want to play on a dedicated server in CS2? If you want to have a private match or want to test a new made throw on Inferno? It’s best to launch your own server. How to Create a Dedicated Training Server in CS2?
Let’s get started to set up a CS2 server. You might think that the first step is to launch the game, but it’s not quite so. First, you need to check your router model and find instructions for accessing its interface in a browser.
Step 1: Open port 27015 via UDP for IPv4 on your router. This is why we asked you to check the model and instructions earlier. There are many models, so there is no universal solution, making this the trickiest part of the setup. After this, everything should be much easier.
Step 2: Create a shortcut with a link to cs2.exe. It’s located in inside your Steam folder: \steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\game\bin\win64\cs2.exe.
Step 3: After creating the shortcut, right-click and go to its properties. In the target field after CS2.exe and closing quotes, add a space and the following text:
-dedicated -usercon +game_type 0 +game_mode 1 +map de_inferno.
You can change de_inferno to any other map; it will launch that specific map.
Step 4: Launch Steam and, through its library (NOT the shortcut you created!), start CS2.
Step 5: After that, launch the newly created shortcut. A console will appear.
Step 6: At this point, your server should already be running (we did this in step 5), so minimize the game, open the console, and type connect localhost. Note: this won’t work if your console and game run on different computers.
Step 7: Switch to a separate server console (the one you launched in Step 5) and type status.
Step 8: In the displayed data, find the udp/ip section and write/copy the IP address in parentheses next to the word public.
Step 9: Share your IP address with friends, and let them join the game by typing connect XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX in the console, replacing Xs with the numbers you provided.
