Five Ideas For Valve To Entertain Us This Winter

1810

New Year and Christmas are a time of fun and merriment. Joy, gifts, snowballs, Christmas tree, and other favourite activities. And for us gamers, spending time in CS:GO will be one of the best pastimes, right? However, Valve is not so generously endowing with content in the winter for their FPS enjoyers, unlike, for example, Dota, which has a tremendous dedicated New Year’s event.

Therefore, today the CS.MONEY Blog looked into other games and picked up five ideas for developers that will work great in CS:GO and can give a lot of positive emotions. Not this year, but next year.

Preface. In general, most popular titles use a simple scheme during the winter holidays celebration: a bunch of themed cosmetic items, free ones, as well as visual changes to the game, and not much more. But there are exceptions when developers put their heart and soul into it.

Unique Gamemode

Major multiplayer esports shooters like R6: Siege, Valorant and Overwatch are introducing limited-time snowball fights for the winter holidays. Each game is different, but mostly it’s trash and fun, which gets boring after a couple of matches.

Therefore, in CS:GO, you can slightly rethink the idea. First, let’s work around the game’s main goal of the game: planting the C4. Add some New Year’s vibe: instead of bombs, players would install gifts at the opponent’s base. Surely, spice it up with competitiveness: the team that planted more gifts will get additional points. These points could be exchanged for skins/stickers from a special thematic set. Of course, the mode will introduce snowball fights: they slow down opponents. Voila!

Secret Santa

Activision Blizzard has added an engaging mode to Hearthstone: during a fight in a Tavern Brawl, dedicated Gift cards drop and players can exchange them with each other. Eventually, if you win, you’ll get a special Gift Exchange card pack.

In CS:GO, Valve can do it a little differently. Players can send gifts through a special menu, and then they will also receive one! You could pack any skin (from those available for exchange): expensive or cheap, you decide. Send, receive, and then send and receive another. Just remember that wrapping gifts should be as joyful as unwrapping them.

Coop Map

What movie comes to your mind when you recall Christmas? Die Hard is a false answer; even Bruce Willis confirmed that it’s not a Xmas movie. We mean Home Alone. And the developers of Hitman 3 made a special map where Agent 47 must get rid of two targets: Harry and Marv (the thieves from the original Home Alone).

Maybe Valve should reverse such an idea a little? Players would have to compete on a movement map alongside other players through many traps. Also, there would be a table of world records or a list just among your friends. In general, the movements maps layer is a huge part of the CS:GO community, so it will get a positive response.

Left 4 Krampus

A couple of years ago, Call of Duty Warzone 2.0 introduced a fun and scary game mode. The game turned into a fight against Krampus, a terrible Christmas demon based on the mythology of the Alpine region countries.

But so that Valve’s employees don’t sweat too much about the mode, simply add the battle for survival between the parties and let one player control Krampus. Also, switch some maps from the official mappool into night mode, give Krampus two or three unique skills, and everyone is happy about a great horror adventure for a group of friends.

Advent Calendar

Let’s take something from real life. Advent calendars have become very popular in recent years: a special box containing gifts for each day for a certain period, usually about two weeks.

Implementing this is easy. Just place an additional window in the main menu, and in order to receive a gift, you must play at least one match, not necessarily a competitive one. And wrap some simple skins, Xmas-dedicated or not. Of course, this is not very generous because such calendars consist of small presents, but it will be a pleasant and kind act anyway.

By the way, our New Year’s event, XMAS DROP in full swing. To participate, you just need to log in (while completing quests increases your chances) in order to win one of literally hundred of skins, including a costly knife!
