The Longest Maps in the History of Counter-Strike 2

60 rounds: PARIVISION vs. Aurora Gaming, 31:29 on Ancient (ESL Challenger League S46)

Despite only around four months since the CS2 official release, we have already witnessed some very long maps in the professional scene. The longest CS2 pro map played was on Ancient between PARIVISION and Aurora Gaming during ESL Challenger League Season 46. Here, the weaker team gets eliminated, and after losing the first map, Aurora Gaming had no room for error. Both teams put up a fierce fight, with chances for victory on both sides. This map’s most “productive” player was SELLTER, making 48 frags in 60 rounds.

54 rounds: Gucci Academy vs. Permitta, 28:26 on Ancient (A1 Gaming League S7)

Ancient was once again the main hero. Yet, in another tournament with another teams. A1 Gaming League Season 7: Gucci Academy and Permitta clashed in a 1-1 bracket during the typical Swiss Group Stage. These two brought 54 rounds of intense competition, where the favourites somehow managed to overcome the Polish five from Permitta. Interestingly, after this map, they couldn’t recover on Overpass, losing it outright with a score of 4:13.

The Longest Maps in the History of Counter-Strike 2 at LAN Tournaments

54 rounds: TYLOO vs. The Mongolz, 26:28 on Inferno (eXTREMESLAND 2023)

At the end of January we had eXTREMESLAND 2023 LAN with a prize pool of $50,000. With Qualifiers held across Asia, the top eight teams met in Shanghai. TYLOO and The Mongolz were favourites in Group A, so it’s no surprise that their match became deciding and required 54 rounds to determine the winner. Both halves ended with a score of 6:6, and only in the fifth overtime did The Mongolz secure victory. Interestingly, they went on to win the tournament itself! Despite playing six rounds fewer, Senzu made 48 frags, as many as SELLTER.

53 rounds: FaZe Clan vs. Ninjas In Pyjamas, 28:25 on Ancient (CS Asia Championships 2023)

Now to Tier-1 teams. In the Group Stage of CS Asia Championships 2023, FaZe Clan and NiP brought a 53-round, highly tense encounter where k0nfig, despite his 47 frags, couldn’t overcome karrigan’s golden lineup, which had won several tournaments at the start of Counter-Strike 2. The event also was in Shanghai, and this map became one of its highlights. Unfortunately, the teams fell seven rounds short of the record.

The Longest Maps in the History of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Finally, it would be wrong to overlook the history of CS:GO, especially since CS2 is its direct successor. The record in CS:GO tournament history is the match between XENEX and exceL. The teams played 88 rounds on Inferno to determine the winner, with JT scoring 68 frags!

The top three longest maps in CS:GO

  • 88 rounds: XENEX vs. exceL, 46:42 on Inferno (ESL UK Premiership 2015)
  • 79 rounds: DenDD vs. PixelFIRE, 38:41 on Mirage (PGL Regional Minor Championship 2016)
  • 72 rounds: GunRunners vs. eSuba, 35:37 on Overpass (Sazka eLeague Spring 2020)

As we can see, even within four months of competitive CS2, some lengthy matches have been played. Records are meant to be broken, so it will be interesting to see new long and intense encounters in the future.
