The final qualifiers for the Rio CS:GO Major have come to an end. Now we know all the twenty-four participants of the fall’s main tournament. While most of RMR has gone within expectation, there were a few unplanned stories. In this article, CS.MONEY Blog talks about positive phenomena.
9z Team
The South American team will play in CS:GO Major for the second time in their history. Last time they finished last and changed two players in the roster. Considering that only six slots were available in the Americas competition, the Argentinian club was not guaranteed to travel to Rio, to say the least.
Nonetheless, 9z Team performed well and took 3rd place, guaranteeing them a better seed in the Challengers stage. They lost only two maps to Evil Geniuses, and the Mirage was a close one. Dgt finished the tournament with the fourth-best average rating of the Americas RMR with 1.24 (The first part of the promo code: 95V). Great job!
B8 Esports
Even though B8 Esports failed to qualify for the Rio Major, we still consider them one of the biggest surprises of the RMR. They entered the bloodbath called European RMR A as the lowest HLTV’s world ranking competitor. Still, they finished the tournament with the 2-3 stat, one step short of the precious slot. The Ukrainian squad defeated Fnatic (the world’s #19), and overall showed quite a promising performance. They’re definitely worth following!
SunPayus
Let’s move from teams to individuals. Alvaro SunPayus Garcia finished the European RMR B with an impressive 1.32 average rating. Only three well-established CS:GO player were better than him: electronic, s1mple, and ZywOo. Moreover, for Sunpayus’ team, ENCE, the tournament has been an effortless, easy and relaxing walk: they’ve beaten HEET, Team Falcons, and BIG with a total round difference of +27.
To be honest, the Spaniard is still one of the greatest surprises of 2022, if not the greatest. He performed really well in Movistar Riders, who finished 3th-4th in IEM Cologne with him on board, before going victorious in Valencia. And none of that would’ve happened if not for SunPayus and his tremendous impact. After only one and a half months since his transfer to ENCE, Alvaro became the Finnish team’s main damage dealer. We are curious to see if he finishes the year with another surprising blast. Because if it happens, Alvaro would have a high place in HLTV’s top 20.
Jeorgesnorts
Here comes one more promising player. Nouns were by no means favourites of the Americas RMR, and their result is not impressive. Yet one of their players stood out. Jeorgesnorts finished the tournament with the seventh-best average rating, 1.21, while all of his teammates went below 1.0 (Second part of the promo code: YGY). Let’s hope that scouts will pay closer attention to this guy.
FalleN
Finally, we can’t stay silent about the man, the veteran, the legend. FalleN decided that missing his first home-brew Major would be nonsense and carried Imperial into sixth place. Gabriel had an outstanding rating for the IGL, 1.16, and no other teammate played better (chelo had the same rating, though). Once again, FalleN proved that he could be a game-changer. Imperial are going to Rio. Their final battle against Complexity was the most watched match of all four Road to Rio RMR tournaments. Brazil will go crazy.
