Origin of the knives
The Karambit is a very old knife. It first appeared in Indonesia and was inspired by the claw of a tiger. There’s even a medieval statue showing a ruler of West Sumatra holding a Karambit.
The Talon Knife is a more modern invention. Its prototype is considered to be a knife made by KIASLORE, also called the Tiger Claw. In many ways, these knives are similar, so the real difference is in the details.
Karambit Features
Let’s start with a classic — the knife that appeared in CS earlier. It has a simple blade design that many players love. The unique grip lets you show off both gloves, and it also has a cool spin animation around your index finger. The handle has space for three fingers (with the index finger going through the ring), and it looks really solid.
The Karambit’s sound effects are clean and sharp — nothing extra. Just half a minute of running with this knife (and CS.MONEY has a preview function so you can test a skin on your own server) is enough to understand why it’s one of the most popular knives in the game.
Talon Knife Features
We took screenshots of the Kerambit Slaughter and Talon Slaughter with about the same float (Minimal Wear). If the Karambit feels like a complete package right away, the Talon has its own pros and cons.
First, the blade. It’s a bit bigger, but its shape is less standard. The blade has three holes, and there are serrations on the outside edge. The handle is different too. On the Karambit, the handle is covered by a plastic shell, while the Talon has two separate scales. The upside is that you can see more of the blade because the metal between the scales is visible. Also, most Talon Knife scales are white, so they match really well with white gloves. (For example, we used Sport Gloves Slingshot).
The animations are mostly similar, but the Talon is easier to spin endlessly on your finger — you just hold the inspect button. Not everyone likes the knife switch animation though, so that’s a matter of taste.
The main difference between the knives is the sound. This can actually be the detail that turns players away from the Talon. It has this odd, sandy plastic rustle sound when you move with it, and that tiny detail can be annoying. Because of it, some players prefer the Karambit. How much it matters is up to you — test the skins yourself with our preview function and decide.
Knife skins
It’s important to note that not all Karambit skins are available for the Talon Knife. For example, the Talon doesn’t have Gamma Doppler. So if you’re after a special skin like Lore, the Talon just won’t work for you.
Knife prices
Even though the knives aren’t that different, the price gap is huge. For example, the Slaughter skin on a Karambit will cost around $2000, while on the Talon it’s about $1000. For the rarest skins, the difference can be even bigger — up to 2.5 times. Even a Safari Mesh Kerambit costs $750–$800, compared to $350 for a Talon Knife. That’s a big difference.
While some people jokingly call the Talon Knife a “Temu Karambit,” the differences between them aren’t massive. Whether those differences are worth the extra money — that’s for you to decide.
