History of Popular Skins

Author: Valery Dragunov

No secret that Valve has been working with independent artists to create map collections. In addition, the company often chooses the best skins from the Workshop when forming new cases. As a rule, each work is based on an original idea, and the history of each skin’s creation often allows you to learn something interesting not only about certain design features but also about the creators themselves.

That’s why today the CS.MONEY Blog takes apart the most interesting and unusual development stories of CS:GO masterpieces.

Glock-18 Vogue

Glock-18 Vogue was originally added to the Workshop as “Eye Contact” on July 20, 2018. Its design is a mixture of vaporwave and pop art. The main element of the skin is the image of female eyes, which occupies almost the entire slide’s surface. KASI, the author, revealed that these are the eyes of his girlfriend, and he created Eye Contact as a gift for her birthday. Initially, the concept of this design was based on the optical illusion, when from almost any point you get the impression that the eyes on the picture are staring directly at you. Just like it works with the well-known portrait of the Mona Lisa. In his Workshop, KASI says: “I am not Da Vinci, but still I tried to recreate this amazing effect.”

Tarot Collection I-III

The Tarot Collections I-III include four skins accepted to the game, all of which have become extremely popular in a very short time. The Empress, The Emperor, Mortis Mortis (originally named “Death”), and Justice are the most prominent works jointly created by Zaphk, 2Minds, and OniLolz. The design of the skins is executed in a distinctive and sophisticated style based on the Tarot cards. The skins for AK-47 and M4A4 have even deserved the Covert rarity type, and after the release, they instantly won a considerable number of fans. The other nine works from the Tarot Collections are still awaiting the developers’ approval.

Fever Dream Sniper Rifles

Fever Dream is available for two types of rifles. The first skin from this series was released for AWP in 2017, the second one for SSG 08 was added to the game in 2020. The skin’s creator is Apel, one of the most renowned artists in the Workshop. According to Apel, he put a piece of his soul into creating these masterpieces. Working on this design, he was inspired by music and art, which influenced him as a person. In particular, he drew inspiration from music bands such as ZillaKami and SosMula, which are known for their aggressive and lyrical tracks accompanied by heartbreaking screams. This series was originally called Psychopath. It seems that a frightened kid drew all these creepy inscriptions and images. Or maybe it was a mental patient imprisoned in a single cell?

Almost every skin accepted to the game has a unique history, and talented artists continue to come up with original ideas and design solutions that can surprise not only the developers but, first of all, the players.
