As the competitive scene slowly bids farewell to CS:GO and stands on its toes waiting for CS2, the community is getting more and more information about the first Majors in the new Era of CS. We already know where and when the first CS2 major will take place. In this article, CS.MONEY Blog has gathered all the available information about CS2 Major’s location, dates, format, prize money, Qualifiers and more.

CS2 Major: Where and When
The First CS2 Major will take place in March 2024 in Copenhagen. The event will be organized by PGL, and in its press release, PGL announces that the tournament will run from March 17 to March 31. The final stage of the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 will be held at the Royal Arena, familiar to CS fans from the BLAST Premier Fall Finals 2022.
CS2 Major Format and Prize Pool
Valve has announced all the format changes for future tournament cycles, but they do not affect the CS2 Major in Copenhagen. At the first CS2 major we expect the usual 24 teams divided into three groups (Legends, Challengers, and Contenders), who will start the tournament earlier or later based on their seeding.
- Challenger Stage: March 17-20, 2024
- Legend Stage: March 21-24, 2024
- Champion Stage: March 28-31, 2024
We will likely have two group stages as before, using the Swiss system where teams fight up to three wins or three losses, after which the top eight teams will compete in the single elimination playoffs.
CS2 First Major In Copenhagen Prize Pool
CS2 Copenhagen Major prize pool will be the usual $1,250,000. Moreover, prize money distribution will likely remain the same. This means whoever wins the first CS2 Major will receive $500,000.
CS2 Major Qualifiers and RMR
PGL CS2 Copenhagen Major’s Qualifying Cycle will begin in 2024. The first open qualifiers will take place on January 8-9. Throughout the second week of 2024, open qualifiers will launch worldwide. Closed qualifiers will be held from January 19 to 21, with two exceptions: in North America, CQs will start a week earlier, January 12 –14; and in the Middle East they will take place a week later, from January 26 to 28.
RMR, the main Qualifying part of any Major, will take place in February-March, depending on the region:
- CS2 2024 RMR Europe – February 14-24, 2024
- CS2 2024 RMR Asia – February 26-29, 2024
- CS2 2024 RMR Americas – March 1-4, 2024
Based on the CS2 Major RMR results, in March 2024 we will know all the 24 teams to compete in the first CS2 Major.
