Hi. Last week, Gamers Without Borders 2021 came to an end, data miners found a mention of CS:GO in Source 2, and HLTV discovered there are no plans to reschedule the upcoming Major. The CS.MONEY blog covers all the important news of the past week.

BIG win Gamers Without Borders 2021

The team BIG defeated FURIA Esports in the finals of Gamers Without Borders 2021. The match was played in a best-out-of-three format on Mirage, Inferno, and Vertigo. BIG won with a score of 2-1.

In addition to the title, first place brought the team $600,000. However, the club won’t receive any money. Under the terms of the competition, the squad can only choose which charity will receive the money. A total of $1,500,000 in prize money was divided among four charities: International Medical Corps, UNICEF, Direct Relief, and Gavi.

Data miners found the first mention

User Gabe Follower shared a curious fact in his Tweeter: the first mention of CS:GO appeared in the libengine2 library, which pertains to Source 2.

While the hype eaters are releasing videos along the lines of “CSGO SOURCE 2 CONFIRMED,” we’ll stay on the ground. The discovery of this mention doesn’t mean there’ll be an update tomorrow that’ll swtich the game to the new engine, as was the case with Dota 2 Reborn. If CS:GO does change the engine, it could lead to significant gameplay changes.

This was also the statement by former Valve employee, Richard Geldreich:

MIBR launches an academy

The club MIBR announced the creation of a roster to boost the development of young players. Selection will be handled by the club’s new coach. Interestingly, only a portion of the players will be chosen this way. At least one member of the academy squad will receive a place on the team based on the results of a special event.

The club management noted that the young players will be considered applicants for places in the main squads of the organization.

Highlight of the week: ace clutch by tabseN

In the match against mousesports, Johannes “tabseN” Wodarz was left alone against five opponents. He used this situation to show off both his killer Driver Gloves King Snake and USP-S Cyrex combo and his skills. A great clutch, five frags, and a defusal. Way to go, tabseN!

PGL has no plans to move the Major

The portal HLTV said, citing sources: tournament operator PGL isn’t in search of a new location for the Major. A small reminder: PGL Major Stockholm 2021 is scheduled to take place in Stockholm October 23 through November 7.

Avicii Arena

This is the second tournament which was supposed to be held in Sweden this year. The first, The International 10, had to be rescheduled eventually. The Swedish government didn’t simplify the process of getting visas for players and thus didn’t meet the company’s expectations. Because of this, a number of problems arose for the tournament. As a result, the company is now looking for another European country ready to host the competition.

Despite this, tournament operator PGL isn’t looking for a fallback. We’ll find out if that’s the right decision in October.
