A buggy corner was found on Inferno, Gambit won BLAST Premier: Spring Finals 2021, and the peak value of online players for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive dropped below the one-million mark. The CS.MONEY blog is covering the most important events of last week.
Woxic back on the pro scene
Özgür “woxic” Eker, the Turkish sniper known for playing for Mousesports and his over-the-top mouse sensitivity, tweeted about his return to the scene. Woxic noted he’d already assembled a squad, but the lineup remains a mystery.
Previously, woxic played for Cloud9, mousesports, and HellRaisers. The player’s accomplishments include wins at ICE Challenge 2020, CS:GO Asia Championships 2019, and DreamHack Open Tours 2019, as well as silver at EPICENTER 2019.
$770,000 for two skins
Streamer ohnePixel posted about a record deal that took place between two Chinese collectors. Two skins, a StatTrak AK-47 Case Hardened and a souvenir AWP Dragon Lore with four Titan (Holo) stickers on each, were priced, together, at $770,000.
That’s a record-setting sum for a skin deal. It far surpasses previous records, notably the purchases of a StatTrak M4A4 Howl for $100,000 or that of another StatTrak AK-47 Case Hardened for — rumor has it — $150,000.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive turns 22!
The Counter-Strike series is now 22 years old. A celebratory post was published on the CS:GO Twitter account. The series originated from a fan mod for Half-Life. A beta version was released in June 1999 and the standalone game, Counter-Strike 1.0, appeared in November 2000.
Gambit Esports become champions
Gambit Esports won BLAST Premier: Spring Finals 2021. In a best-out-of-three match, the team defeated Natus Vincere 2-0. The round score was 16-12 on Dust 2 and 16-11 on Mirage. The win brought the team $225,000 and favorable prospects for BLAST Premier: World Final 2021.
According to HLTV, the best player of the tournament was Abay “Hobbit” Khassenov. Not once did his rating drop below one in the matches of the tournament. This is the third time Abay receives the title of the most valuable player. Previously, he was declared the best player at DreamHack Winter 2016 and EPIC CIS League Spring 2021.
Highlight of the week: victory clutch by s1mple
On the deciding map in the BLAST Premier: Spring Finals 2021 match, Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev faced a 1-v.-4 situation. Of course, he pulled off that clutch — we’re talking s1mple, after all!
Two moments about this clutch deserve a special mention: the incredibly beautiful AK-47 Wild Lotus in the hands of the Ukrainian player and s1mple’s composure while defusing the C4. He waited long enough to make a headshot that would end this encounter.
ESIC lifts ban on ToH1o
ESIC reconsidered its decision regarding former SMASH Esports coach, Anton “ToH1o” Georgiev. ToH1o was accused of exploiting the camera bug and suspended for 10 months. Valve banned him from the next five Majors.
It took 7 months to review the appeal. Anton “ToH1o” Georgiev himself noted that the ban from Valve hasn’t yet been lifted — this should happen in the near future.
In September last year, ESIC conducted an investigation looking for cases of abuse of the camera bug, resulting in bans of more than forty team mentors.
