IEM Summer 2021 ended in a smashing victory, and the game community’s found yet another way to look past walls. The CS.MONEY blog is covering the most important events of the past week.
Gambit Esports wins IEM Summer 2021
Sunday saw the end of IEM Summer 2021. The final of the tournament was a best-out-of-five encounter between the teams Gambit Esports and OG on Mirage, Dust 2, Overpass, Inferno, and Ancient. Gambit Esports players managed to win with a double-bagel score.
The victory brought the club $100,000 as well as Pro Tour and BLAST Premier points. The best player of the tournament was Sergey “Ax1Le” Rychtorov. The portal HLTV noted his steadily high performance at the event. Only in three games did his rating drop below one.
ESIC & match-fixing
ESIC (Esports Integrity Commission) stated they found “evidence of match-fixing” at EPIC CIS League 2021. The full statement was published on Twitter. The accusations are directed at the CEO of the Ukrainian organization Project X, Alexander Shishko.
ESIC stated that he’d made several bets on the Akuma v. Virtus.pro match. At the same time, Akuma players may be related to him because they’d previously played in the aforementioned club Project X. The results of the investigation have been sent to Valve.
Shishko himself has already stated that he considers the accusations slanderous. Alexander noted that he often bets on esports events, and speculating about his bet on the Akuma v. Virtus.pro match was tailoring facts for one particular theory.
A “legal” wallhack
Twitter user @gabefollower posted a video where the cl_drawothermodels command was activated during a match. According to the post, reproducing this wallhack is child’s play. Interestingly, you’ll have to use an application from the VAC “white list” to this end. Valve hasn’t commented on this yet.
Highlight of the week: Ax1Le annihilates 4 enemies in the match against OG
The best moment of last week was definitely the situation where Ax1Le engaged with rushing enemies on Dust 2 A Site. The Russian hid at the “goose” with a USP-S Kill Confirmed and was able to catch the three OG players unawares. Ax1Le masterfully took advantage of the opponents’ confusion and secured a win of the round for his team.
HAVU benched jemi
The club HAVU Gaming removed Jamie “jemi” Mäkinen from the main roster, with Taneli “diSTURBED” Veikkola temporarily replacing him. This was reported on the team’s website. The reason for the reshuffle in the lineup was “a long period of unsatisfactory results.”
Jamie “jemi” Mäkinen has been defending the club’s colors since the beginning of this year. As part of the squad, he reached the finals of online tournaments seven times, four of which ended with the team’s victory.
