You Better Not! Is MP7 Worth It?

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive features dozens of types of firearms, but the meta is almost always limited to 6-7 guns simultaneously. We believe that this is unfair, and today CS.MONEY Blog pays attention to one undeservedly forgotten gun worth giving a shot at: MP7.

MP7 Specs

MP7 is a submachine gun available for both Attackers and Defenders. It costs 1500 dollars but the kill bounty is $600. In many respects, MP7 is a typical representative of its class: it has 30 bullets in the magazine; mediocre armor penetration of 62.5%; rate of fire of 750 rounds per minute; accuracy at a distance of up to 15 meters … Basically, makes it a typical submachine gun from CS:GO. With a little caveat. Let’s take a closer look at this weapon’s strengths and weaknesses.

Strong Sides: Damage, Accuracy, Rate, Recoil Pattern

MP7 has several strengths for its class. First, the damage. Each shot deals 29 damage—which is a whole lot; only UMP-45 does more among the SMGs. In addition to fairly high base damage, MP7 has good armour penetration of 62.50%. Also, this weapon has reasonable damage penalties with increasing distance: for every 500 units of distance to the target, the damage drops by 15%. This is less than all other SMGs except MP9 and P90.

In addition to damage, MP7 also excels in accuracy. You can guarantee one-tap heads at a distance of up to 14 meters when shooting while standing. When shooting on the move, accuracy is maintained at a distance of 5 meters. According to this indicator, MP7 shares the first place with MAC-10 among SMGs. Finally, is worth noting the successful combination of rate of fire and the recoil pattern.

This makes MP7 one of the game’s easiest, if not the easiest, recoil-controlling submachine guns. Summing up, it turns out to be a versatile weapon which performs well in standing and on the run, at short and medium distances. So why is the gun not in the meta?

Weak Sides: Cost, Movespeed, Better Options

MP7 also has enough weaknesses. Let’s start with the fact that this is the second most expensive firearm in its class. Only P90 is more expensive; however, MP7 can be safely called the most expensive in its class, given its other features. $1500 for a farm gun is a solid investment considering that MP9 and MAC-10 are $250 and $450 cheaper, respectively.

The second weakness is movement speed. With this SMG in hands, your speed drops to 220 units per second. That’s slower than running with M4A1-S! MP7 has the highest speed penalty in its class. This is a serious problem for the run-n-gun style of play.

Finally, MP7 has another problem: rivals among guns. MP9 is by far the best SMG in the game. High rate of fire, movement speed, low price, good accuracy. While MP7 loses in all respects and it makes no sense to buy it for CTs. With MAC-10, the situation is somewhat different. MP7 outperforms MAC-10 in several ways, but in an anti-eco scenario, damage through armor or overall accuracy is not that important.

How To Play With MP7

There’s only one reasonable niche for MP7: a farm gun played until picking up a better choice or dying, which basically means “not upgraded in the next round”. And while MP7 can’t quite compete with Galil AR and FAMAS, its lower cost and higher kill bounty are strong arguments in favour of keeping the gun in hand.

There is one more nuance that shouldn’t be overlooked. Not all CS:GO players are esports athletes. MP7 is slower and more accurate, making it easier to control. Therefore, for players who want to drop by a couple of pubs in the evening, this gun suits nicely.

It’s time to answer the question: “Should you give MP7 a chance?”. More likely no than yes. The high price and not the most outstanding characteristics push it into the background. However, you should not write off this gun. Offensive players can find uses for it in anti-eco and even anti-buy rounds. Good armor damage and easy control can pleasantly surprise you.

By the way, Valve has just released a new CS:GO case, Revolution Collection. It has a chic new MP7 skin called Featherweight, which looks like modern gaming mice: all plastic and light. This and other skins are available at our CS.MONEY Market
