Did you know there was a genuine Tec apocalypse in 2014? And that’s not even Valve’s only grave mistake related to guns. Today, the CS.MONEY Blog is going to talk about the three most unbalanced weapons in the history of CS:GO.
Valve rarely adds new guns to the game. Instead, they experiment with the existing arsenal for the sake of gameplay balance. But history remembers some large-scale failures which made guns extremely overpowered and completely ruined the balance.
Tec-9
Players appreciate the Tec-9 for its rate of fire, magazine capacity, and price. Sometimes, it’s even preferred to a submachine gun to save money.
The device reached its peak of popularity on June 1, 2014, after another update from Valve that made the Tec-9 an unbalanced annihilating machine. The gun had 32 rounds in the magazine (compared to 18 now), recoil and movement barely had an impact on accuracy, and the rate of fire was off the charts.
Everybody used the Tec-9 back then. Even CTs tried to get their hands on it trying to even things up with the T-side.
Fortunately, this nightmare didn’t last long. The gun got nerfed in a new patch released after 24 hours.
AUG
Even though certain pro players use it too, the AUG has long been considered a “device for beginners”. Thanks to the rifle’s sight, players can fire accurate shots. Yet few know that in 2014, the sight was much more efficient and enabled players to accurately hit targets at surprisingly long distances.
The devs didn’t limit the gun’s overpowered features to the sight and created the most unbalanced weapon in the history of CS:GO. Its accuracy was improved; movement speed with the gun in hand was unexpectedly high; finally, the gun also boasted an increased rate of fire. All in all, the AUG didn’t leave a chance of survival even for experienced opponents.
To make matters worse, T’s alternate rifle (the SG 553) was significantly inferior, providing CTs with a sizeable advantage.
Desert Eagle
The Desert Eagle is one of the most popular weapons in the game. It’s the epitome of power and toughness. In 2013, the Deagle experienced its rise. The developers gave it surreal strength, causing players to opt for the pistol more often than they did for their main weapon, the AK-47 or the M4.
The Desert Eagle had minimal recoil and a very high accuracy recovery rate. But what made it absolutely overpowered was its damage, with eighty-four units of damage from a hit to the torso guaranteeing a two-hit frag.
The imbalanced version of the pistol lived longer than that of the Tec-9: the situation was fixed after one week.
It’s reassuring that Valve, in one way or another, is constantly working to improve the balance and occasionally experimenting. Hopefully, we won’t see any more overpowered guns that ruin the game balance.
