What is the Deadlock ranked matchmaking?
After hundreds of thousands of players tried Deadlock, the arrival of ranked matchmaking was only a matter of time. Players want to sweat and compete against equals, while the general matchmaking system couldn’t fully handle that (many matches ended in one-sided outcomes).
That’s why Deadlock now has ranked play. Players are divided into 11 categories based on skill level, each with its own rank. Players from the same category are matched together, ensuring the most accurate matchups. Depending on whether you win or lose, your rank increases or decreases, allowing you to track your progress.
How to Play Ranked in Deadlock?
This mode in Deadlock comes with two major restrictions. First, ranked matches are only available for a few hours each day. On weekdays, the window lasts six hours (for example, in Germany, it’s open from 16:00 to 22:00). On weekends, ranked matches are available for 11 hours (in Germany, from 11:00 to 22:00).
The second restriction is that absolute beginners are not allowed in ranked play. You must play 50 matches before you can access Deadlock’s ranked mode. This rule serves two purposes: on the one hand, it protects new players and shields them from the complexities of Valve’s new game. On the other hand, it helps prevent smurfing, as you’ll need to invest time into levelling up a new account.
Another smaller restriction is related to behaviour. If you’ve received many reports for toxic behaviour or have any penalties (like a mute), ranked play will be locked for you.
How to Check Your Rank in Deadlock?
You’ve played 50 matches, and your ranked mode tab has opened, but there’s no information. How come? First, the system won’t immediately show your rank when the mode unlocks. To get it, you need to play seven calibration matches. Once completed, one of the 11 medals will appear on your ranked mode tab.
Important note: in Deadlock, medals are only valid for one week. Once the ranked period ends, all players must play another seven calibration matches. Some might find this frustrating, while others may see it as a refreshing change. Since the game is still actively being developed and reworked, it makes sense to keep the periods shorter.
Tips for Ranked in Deadlock
The competitive mode in Valve’s new game doesn’t differ much from other ranked modes, so universal tips will be useful here as well. Warm up in unranked games, only start searching for a match when you’re fully ready and focused, and take breaks after a few losses to avoid tilt.
