Workshop highlights: best skins of September

3924

September witnessed the release of Operation Riptide, which brought a whole bunch of new skins. We’ve already shown some of the new arrivals earlier. Today, the CS.MONEY Blog will tell you about the five coolest weapon finishes that surfaced in the Workshop this month. Check this out — perhaps one of these will make it into the next case!

M249 Poltergeist

The M249 is a sad gun. The most expensive and the least used weapon, it doesn’t even boast any outstanding skins. For that matter, there are only 19 finishes for this gun. Only the MP5-SD and R8 Revolver have fewer. The M249 Horror Movie envisioned by Des might well become that twentieth skin.

The artist decided to play around with the shape of the gun and turned the magazine into a… TV set! Now, you can watch a short film while you’re pulling the trigger and emptying the magazine. That should take you a good eight seconds. Just long enough to get to the finale of that short video.

Too bad the rest of the skin’s details aren’t that interesting. While black metal and beige inserts sure go well together, it could be something more eye-catching.

Glock-18 Meraki Red

There are already three Glock-18 designs that employ fire. So there should definitely be the fourth one too. Fortunately, the Glock-18 Meraki Red looks much cooler than a gun with a single flame on it. Artist ItzDead went to great lengths and decorated his skin with tons of small details, from band-aids to seams on cracks. The resulting look is very stylish.

The smiley face on the back of the gun deserves a separate mention. This yellow countenance is sure to cheer you up after a lost pistol round. The skins also contains a classic reference: hidden under the barcode is the C4 code. The Glock-18 Meraki Red is definitely worthy to become part of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

AK-47 Unicorn

With all these tournaments, updates, and operations getting unleashed on us, the Dreams & Nightmares Skin Contest kind of got overshadowed. Yet soon enough, the results will be summed up. When we were rummaging through the entries in the Workshop, we noticed a curious tendency: the artists mostly focused on nightmares! They decorated their designs with all sorts of spooky things: monsters, dozens of eyes, lacerations. But there were almost no flowers, unicorns, or fairytale sunsets.

The AK-47 Unicorn rights this wrong. Sorarox (that’s the artist’s handle) decided to depict on his AK a unicorn with a rainbow-colored mane and a horn that shoots lightning bolts. The picture is awesome! We would really like to see the next version of this finish with cosmetic improvements. Keep up the good work, Sorarox, we believe in you!

We also believe that you can be a winner of our new Gleam-event. In it, we’re going to be giving away new cool skins from Operation Riptide. The main prize — butterfly knife Lore FT! By the way, you can easily increase your chances of winning skins. Just go here and type in the promo code – Q4qRCPK. Good luck!

AWP SPENDER

The AWP has quite a few nicknames, but this work from the Workshop suggests adding another one to the list: Spender. True enough, snipers do love to waste money. For the price of a single AWP, a regular rifler can buy a full package, while even as much as 6,000 won’t suffice for a sniper!

It’s exactly these spending habits that inspired CiDDi and hexeth to create the AWP SPENDER. By the way, a couple of the hexeth’s works are already a part of the game. For instance, the MAC-10 Disco Tech. Given that Valve likes to collaborate with artists on a recurring basis, the AWP SPENDER has a good chance of making it into the game.

P250 CONSOLE V.2

The last item on today’s list is the P250 CONSOLE V.2 created by three artists: LEFTY, IceM1le, and SayChains. Together, they managed to create a skin that’s rather plain yet truly beautiful. Its main attraction is the colorful stain on the front part. Depending on light conditions, it takes on various shades of pink and purple.

Besides this spot, the gun is decorated with white characters against a black background and a small drawing on the front. By the way, hidden among the characters is the sv_cheats 1 command and a wallhack config. Will Valve ask the creators to change this text if the skin gets moved from the Workshop to the game?
