Workshop highlights: best skins of May

The end of another month means yet another revision of skins from the Workshop. This time, the CS.MONEY Blog managed to discover an ancient Greek AWP, some death spirals, and a gun from the Battle Royale mode. Let’s go look at the best works from Workshop artists over May 2022.

AWP Arkhaois

Skin makers have repeatedly opted for Ancient Greece as a setting. They have drawn inspiration from both real events and myths, like, say, the legendary birds on the AUG Stymphalian.

The creator of the AWP Arkhaois, artist f0rnez, decided to base his work not on a specific myth, but rather on the entire style of ancient Greek painting. He used this style to create a drawing on the AWP and named the item accordingly: AWP Arkhaois.

The result is a regular masterpiece. Black and bronze, it’s covered with tons of geometric details and plant ornaments. It’s instantly clear that this pattern looks equally good on the AWP and an ancient Greek amphora.

USP-S CYBERFORCE (Orange)

The theme of hi-tech weapons has been a staple among artists designing weapon finishes for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive for a long time. We’ve already mentioned this theme a few times, but why not revisit it? And there’s a great reason for that, too. On May 27, the duo of artists Michael and evgenbrau published their USP-S CYBERFORCE (Orange).

This variant of the skin is executed in orange tones against a dark background. The side of the gun is decorated by the skin name, with an Illuminati triangle in the center; the silencer is embellished with orange elements and additional decorative details. Would GODSENT stickers look good on this gun?

Sawed-Off Airhead

The Danger Zone mode, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive‘s answer to the Battle Royale, is markedly different from competitive matches. And we don’t just mean the format. Specifically for the Battle Royale, the devs created models in yellow coveralls, boxes, new devices, and turrets. A whole bunch of cool ideas that can be turned into skins!

That’s exactly what artists smks and Marduk did. Their Airhead is a sawed-off shotgun reinforced with metal turret parts that can be found on the island. The execution of this curious idea is up to scratch, too. The Sawed-Off Airhead looks great in-game, but it could also well be among the props on the set of the new Mad Max

AWP Death Spiral (Holographic)

What can beat a beautiful skin? A beautiful Holo skin, of course! That’s exactly what artist Ezikyl went for. His AWP Death Spiral (Holographic) defines “exciting.” With a simple pattern in shades of gray used as a background, the main attraction of the design is the holographic spiral that covers almost the entire body of the rifle.

We’d really like to see this skin in other colors. For example, an ultramarine background with a gold spiral. Still, even without tweaking the color palette, this finish will be a great addition to the next case. Just don’t look too closely at the spiral during the game — or you can miss your enemy emerging out of nowhere.

Five-Seven Interceptor

You must’ve noticed one weird thing: militaristic skins are no longer all the rage in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. In the game, everyone assumes the role of a Special Forces operator and wields an AK-47 looking exactly like the real one, and yet, their gun has unicorns on it. Those into the military style are left out in the cold, with even one skin with a stained pattern or naked metal in a case brining them loads of joy.

It’s exactly naked metal that glows on the Five-Seven Interceptor envisioned by RoyalDooh. The sources of inspiration for this skin are immediately identifiable: talk aviation and navy. The gun itself looks like a piece of metal in a plating with a serial number. Decorative elements include a grinning beast mouth on the front and bullets on the grip. An incredibly smart work executed in the vein that’s lacking among the already-existing looks for the Five-Seven.

Honorable mention: Antwerp Harbor

This time, we can’t help but also mention a map: Antwerp Harbor. Released to celebrate the seventeenth Major, the map allows you to take a little tour of the Antwerp port. The idea is amazing — too bad that no one created such maps for previous tournaments from Valve.

Over the time we’ve been rummaging through the Workshop, we’ve told you about over a hundred entries. Some of them have actually made it into the game. And maybe the next case will contain one of today’s skins. Do not forget that on the CS.MONEY blog you will always find fresh materials on esports, trading and the very cool skins in CS:GO!
