Falchion case is turning 6 years old

3028

Six years ago, at the end of May 2015, the game saw the drop of the Falchion Case. Today, the CS.MONEY blog is going to go over the contents of this yellow box again and check how well these skins have aged over the six years.

Background knife

The case brought us a knife of the same name. However, Falchion Knife failed to compete with the community’s favs. M9 Bayonet, Karambit, and Butterfly Knife were — and still are — much more favored by the community and much more expensive too.

Yet that’s not to say the Falchion Knife was completely discarded. The knife acquired its own fan base, and there are quite a number of skins for it. The handle deserves a separate mention. Depending on the skin, it can be black, red, silver, or have purple inlays — there’s always a full-fledged extension of the blade pattern on the handle. This makes Falchion knives go well with gloves.

The low level of hype around this knife also contributed to its relatively low price. Namely, you can get a Falchion Knife Marble Fade for about three hundred bucks, with Falchion Knife Crimson Web even cheaper. Some skins for this knife cost just a little over one hundred dollars.

Covert masterpieces

Both Covert skins from the case are genuine masterpieces. AK-47 Aquamarine Revenge plays around contrast: the pastel background and orange dolphins are still as eye-catching as ever. And it’s a cheap item too — by the AK-47 standards. A little over fifty dollars — and AK-47 Aquamarine Revenge Minimal Wear is part of your loadout.

AWP Hyper Beast is a curious specimen as well. With already four items in the Hyper Beast skin “family,” the image looks different and fresh on the AWP nonetheless. The size of the gun provided the artist with enough space to depict the monster in all its glory.

AWP Hyper Beast

Both AK-47 Aquamarine Revenge and AWP Hyper Beast are mid-price items among AK and AWP skins (respectively). You can procure either of them in good condition for a reasonable $50 or so.

Chopped geometry

While Covert skins are covered in drawings, half of the skins of the case are quite the opposite: chopped shapes, rough geometry, minimum unique details. SG 553 Cyrex, M4A4 Evil Daimyo, USP-S Torque, Galil AR Rocket Pop, and P90 Elite Build are in sharp contrast with the skins we described above.

USP-S Torque

Another interesting thing about these items is that they are continuations of already existing series. USP-S Torque, P90 Elite Build, and SG 553 Cyrex are all part of such skin series, just like AWP Hyper Beast. They aren’t “trailblazers,” but rather nice successors to popular patterns.

No camo

Another curious feature of the case is that it barely contains camo skins. There is some camouflage on Nova Ranger and UMP-45 Riot. But they don’t look like your usual Safari Mesh or Predator skins either. Rather, their appearance resembles the camo from Battlefield 4. Nova Ranger and UMP-45 Riot look great in CS:GO, but would also be perfect for that next Battlefield

Instead of camo, other ideas are at play in the skins from the case. Glock-18 Bunsen Burner is covered in blue flames, and P2000 Handgun offers you the opportunity to finger shoot like a kid. Valve’s urge to move away from the “a couple of awesome skins plus a ton of camo filler stuff” idea of a case was evident even prior to the release of this chest. The Falchion Case only confirmed the trend.

If you look at the most recent case, Snakebite, it becomes instantly clear that camo has become a thing of the past for good. Neither the Snakebite Case nor the Broken Fang Case that preceded it had any camo skins — unless you count G3SG1 Digital Mesh. And that’s a good thing!

Rummaging through the Falchion Case skins evokes words like “standard” or “familiar.” Indeed, there are a lot of “new” skins in the case. In quotes, because they weren’t new at all — they were only additions to existing skin series. At the same time, these skins still look good today.

Aside from their good looks, they offer another advantage: they are growing in value. The price of AK-47 Aquamarine Revenge has more than doubled since the item appeared in the game. The prices of the other skins are also gradually increasing. They might be a great investment.

So that’s what the Falchion Case turned out to be — somewhat standard and familiar. It didn’t bring any new cool skin series and didn’t provoke any copyright scandals. It simply took its humble place in the game’s history — just like Operation Bloodhound, which brought us this case.
