Counter-Strike 2 offers a lot of customization options. For example, you can put stickers on your skins or give them unique names. You can also replace the default character models with special ones — agents. And even those agents can be made more personal using patches. The CS.MONEY Blog explains everything about CS2 patches, how to use them, and which ones are the most expensive.

What are patches?

Patches are cosmetic items in CS2. They don’t affect gameplay, but you can apply them to your agents. Every agent (except the default models) has several preset slots for patches. Usually, these are on the back, sleeves, or lower torso. However, sometimes there are exceptions.
Patches come in three rarity levels:
- Exotic
- Remarkable
- High Grade
Just like stickers, patches can be divided into two groups: regular and tournament ones. However, unlike weapon stickers, tournament patches don’t appear at every Major. In fact, Valve has only released tournament patches once — during the Stockholm 2021 Major.
How to use patches in CS2?

To use a patch, you need two things: the patch itself and an agent. You can’t apply patches to default models that everyone has.
If you’ve got both, here’s what to do:
- Open your inventory
- Select the patch
- Right-click it
- Choose the corresponding option
- Pick an agent and the spot where the patch will go
Agents usually have three patch slots. Their size and position depend on the chosen model.
You can’t remove patches from an agent and put them on another. The only option is to delete them. Doing that is easy: open your inventory, right-click the agent, and select “remove patch.”
Where to get patches?

There are several ways to get patches in CS2:
- Open a patch pack
- Buy a patch from another player
- Redeem it from an operation store (not available now, since there are no active operations)
- Buy an agent that already has the patch you want
Some patch packs are sold directly in the in-game store. They work just like sticker capsules — the result of every opening is pure luck.
Are patches in CS2 a good investment?
Valve hasn’t released new patches in years, and many of the existing ones are limited on the market. Does that make patches a good investment? The answer is more complicated than it seems. If Valve adds a new batch of patches, no one knows how that will affect the prices of old ones.
For example, the Sunset Wave patch has gone up in price more than 30 times since it was added. It’s now worth around $42. Its value has been steadily growing since April 2022 — but that doesn’t mean it will keep rising forever. Prices might drop if new patches are released.
The most expensive patches

There are 112 different patches in CS2. Some can be bought on CS.MONEY Market for around 25–30 cents, while others are much pricier. The top 10 most expensive patches in CS2 are:
- Bayonet Frog — $425;
