CS2 update: new animations, bugs and map changes on Inferno, Overpass, and Train

Valve released a pretty big update for Counter-Strike 2. Even though it didn’t get its own blog post, the changes are significant. Let’s break down what happened together with the CS.MONEY Blog.

  • Today’s update replaces all first-person animations, including weapon deploy, firing, reload, and inspect animations
  • Replaced/updated all chicken animations

Let’s start with the changes that don’t affect the game much yet. Valve is actively working on an improved animation system, and for now, the updates only touched chickens and first-person animations. Right now, this update mostly caused a lot of funny (and not-so-funny) bugs.

For example, some AWP skins don’t look great, but we’re sure Valve will fix that quickly.

  • Improvements to damage prediction when shooting while moving

Damage prediction is still an experimental feature that serious players usually keep disabled. Not much has changed here so far.

  • Shotgun reloads will no longer resume automatically after being interrupted

This change is something players will like: before, if you interrupted a reload to shoot, it would automatically start again, which was super annoying. Now that won’t happen anymore.

Finally, Valve slightly tweaked how players interact with some textures while surfing, but it’s still too early to talk about official support for the mode.

Big changes affected Inferno, Overpass, and Train. On Inferno, developers decided to fix the rough situation on the B-site. The church now has open windows on top for better utility throws, the close box on site has been changed so you can climb on it now, and the area behind the church is simpler and more compact. All of these changes make the site easier to take and retake.

Changes on Overpass mostly focus on the A-site. The developers slightly moved the truck and trimmed the grass in some spots. These changes are interesting, but it’s still hard to say how much they’ll impact balance.

As for Train, there are various changes all over the map. Developers added new cover in some places and raised platforms in others. It’s hard to point out just one thing—better just hop in-game, load up Train, and see everything for yourself!
