Hidden Easter Eggs in CS2 Maps You Might Have Missed

Almost every game hides its own Easter eggs. Counter-Strike 2 is no exception to that. The CS.MONEY Blog collected all the CS2 Easter eggs. Let’s scroll through the list to the very end!

Not only Easter eggs add flavor to the game, but so do skins. Visit CS.MONEY and make your inventory shine!

Almost every map in the game has hidden objects or fun references. We’re not talking about reused models from other Valve games, like the red car outside Mirage, but about truly cool and creative Easter eggs.

The most interesting thing on Vertigo is the death counter. But it only tracks deaths caused by falling off the map. Both CT and T spawns have one, and the number goes up every time a player falls into the void. There’s also a helicopter from Left4Dead flying around the skyscraper, but that’s less impressive.

The new version of Inferno has a few awesome secrets. The first one is a hidden room inside the church. Just to the left of the CT entrance, there’s a locked door. If you fly through it using cheats, you’ll see… a TV showing the main menu of CS: Source.

But that’s not all! Some of the street names on the map are references to Valve developers or map creators. And you can even find Inferno from CS:GO inside Inferno from CS2. All you need to do is look for a painting showing the second mid from the old version of the map.

Overpass is packed with references. They start right at spawn! Running from T base toward bombsite B, you can:

  • See a graffiti with “1UP”, a famous Berlin graffiti crew;
  • Hear music behind a door nearby. It’s a track from Portal 2, another Valve classic;
  • Spot a painting of a burning CT on B site. That’s a nod to a legendary defuse by olofmeister.

Going toward bombsite A, you’ll find even more fun stuff. There’s a dragon drawing at the playground, which is a callback to Cobblestone’s mosaic. Near the tables with balloons, there are plush toys referencing the loading screen from L4D. And if you peek behind the CT truck, you’ll find a “no climbing” sign. It is another tribute to olofmeister left there after the infamous SSG 08 boost from ten years ago.

And that’s not all! In the bank near B site, there’s a calendar showing a scene from the Operation Riptide trailer. A small treat for true CS fans.

Train also has plenty of references, from simple to hidden ones. In older versions, there was a “Heaven” position above bombsite A. It is now removed, but remembered with a graffiti tag.

Above A site, there’s also a dog picture above “longdog.” That dog, or “popdog”, is a tribute to the mapmaking team that built the original Train for CS 1.6.

At T spawn, there’s a train schedule with stations like Bank, Lake, Cobblestone, and Warehouse. All but the last are upcoming CS2 maps.

Around B site, there are locked rooms with screens showing old Train versions and papers with logos from Valve’s in-game universe. One of those logos even appears on a weapon skin. We’re talking about the M4A4 The Coalition.

Finally, you’ll find a trash can with pigeon graffiti near Ivy. This one remembers a funny CS:GO bug: players used to jump on pigeons at ivy and fly off the map! The bug was fixed, but the pigeon stayed as a tribute to those chaotic times.

Most CS2 maps have chickens, but not Nuke. Why? Because of an official notice! Outside the playable area, you can find a whiteboard listing tasks, including “stop letting chickens in the facility.” Looks like they already did. Also, from the CT van, you can hear a very familiar tune. Fans of Valve games will recognize it instantly. Check it out and see if you can guess it yourself!

Office is one of the oldest maps, dating back to CS BETA 7.0. CTs have to rescue hostages in a snowy office building. The map includes not only surprisingly good-looking fire extinguishers but also pop culture Easter eggs, like a Wall Street poster in the kitchen and soda cans that look suspiciously like Mountain Dew.

But the main Easter egg is the radio at T spawn:

  • It plays a faint news broadcast about an incident in an office, the very one from the map!
  • The voice on the radio belongs to Gabe Newell himself, Valve’s co-founder;
  • And if you listen carefully, it mentions four hostages, even though there are only two now. It is a relic from older versions where there used to be four NPCs.

Finally, we can’t forget the goose graffiti on Dust 2’s A site. It’s not just a bird. It’s a tribute to the game’s creator. Minh Le, known as Gooseman, is one of the fathers of Counter-Strike. The goose is a nod to his nickname, a small mark from the man who started it all.
