What is the Arms Race?
Arms Race in CS2 is an entertaining deathmatch mode where the main goal is to progress through a chain of different weapons and finish the game with a knife kill. To advance to the next level, you usually need to score two frags with the current weapon. If you die, don’t worry: your respawn timer is short, and you continue playing with the same weapon as before.
The weapon set in each CS2 Arms Race match varies, but all options adhere to the following combination:
- 1 automatic rifle
- 1 sniper rifle
- 4 assault rifles
- 1 machine gun
- 3 submachine guns
- 1 heavy pistol
- 3 pistols
- 2 shotguns
- Knife
Arms Race has no time limit; the game ends when a player on the final level (knife) gets a kill.
On which maps is Arms Race played?
Valve released two maps for the Arms Race mode: Baggage and Shoots.
Baggage is a symmetrical map representing a baggage claim area in an unnamed airport. The colour scheme and textures strongly resemble Nuke.
Shoots is another classic deathmatch map, also symmetrical, but spawns are diagonal to each other. In CS:GO, Shoots was known as Vietnam and was located there, but in CS2, the setting was moved to Mexico, with textures borrowed from Ancient.
Useful Arms Race tips
Here’s a couple of tips how to play Arms Race in CS2. The most important advice is to simply keep moving. Camping may seem tempting, but instant respawns, map structure, and mode rules make such tactics inefficient. You should actively seek frags rather than wait for prey to come to you, as the gameplay in this mode is too fast.
It’s also essential to remember: early knife frags are valuable as one knife kill immediately grants you a level, while your enemy loses that level.
