3 Big Problems with Skins in Counter-Strike 2

1927

There are hundreds of skins in Counter-Strike 2. They’re cool, detailed, and even tell their own stories. But despite all that, there are still some things that could (and should) be improved. Today, the CS.MONEY Blog is going to talk about three problems with skins that someone at Valve really needs to fix.

Right now, we’re running a mega giveaway with a $25,000 prize pool! Click the banner, watch the Austin Major, and win awesome skins!

Name Tags are small labels with text that can be attached to a skin — basically letting you rename the item. One of the most famous name tags is Kenny “kennyS” Schrub’s Magic Stick:

But Name Tags aren’t perfect. Their position is fixed and can’t be changed. On some weapons like the Desert Eagle or AWP, the tag is placed nicely: it doesn’t interfere with crafts and it’s clearly visible when inspecting the skin. Good job, Valve. In these cases, it’s done right.

But not always. On the USP-S, the name tag is right behind the silencer. On the M4A4, it’s above the grip, right in the center of the rifle. And on the Classic Knife — it’s stuck right on the blade! There are more examples of poor placements. Because of this, great-looking crafts can end up looking awkward just because of the tag’s position.

StatTrak has a similar issue. The kill counter screen is fixed too. You can’t move it or turn it off. Sometimes it fits well into the design. Like on the P250 — the counter is under the barrel, easy to see during gameplay or when inspecting, and it doesn’t ruin the design. It can even be part of the craft.

But sometimes it just doesn’t work. For example, M4A4 In Living Color and M4A1-S Player Two — the StatTrak screen covers the character’s face on the skin. That ruins the look.

M4A1-S Player Two

It’s even worse on knives. There’s no digital screen — instead, the kill count is scratched right into the blade. Sometimes it just looks terrible. Like when your knife says “69” — it’s not a joke, it just ruins the visuals.

When CS:GO switched to CS2, many of the default weapon models got visual upgrades — they became more detailed and looked better. But the skins made for old models didn’t get updated.

At first glance, it’s not a big deal. But actually, it affects gameplay. For example: the old AUG model has a smaller scope in zoom mode. That gives players with that skin an unfair advantage — they just see more of the screen.

AWP Lightning Strike

And don’t forget the outdated textures. Some old skins looked weird even when they were first released. Take the AWP Lightning Strike — it was basically “put a lightning bolt on it and call it a day.” Now it looks even worse. These skins really need a visual remaster.

Valve has already taken a step in the right direction. They allowed players to place stickers anywhere on the skin. That was an awesome and important update. Now it’s time to take a few more steps — and finally clean up the skin kingdom.

Valve, please fix.
