New CS2 Update Brings Night Ancient, Limited Skin, and Optimizations

Valve drops a big CS2 update! And no, this time the changelog isn’t huge — but you’ll still have to download 4.4 GB. Let’s break down the changes together with the CS.MONEY Blog!

On our website, you can grab awesome skins at low prices! Thousands of skins, an easy-to-use interface, and fast deals are waiting for you!

Let’s start with the changes Valve itself put in the headline. We got night versions of two maps at once: Ancient and Shoots. They’re quite similar, so it’s no surprise they came as a pair. Night Ancient is only available in Casual and Deathmatch. If you want to play on the daytime Ancient, you’ll need to queue for Competitive or Premier.

The good news is that even in night mode, the map is well-lit, and just like night mode on websites or apps, this darker look might be easier on your eyes.

The armory also got an update. Valve has added a new limited skin — M4A1-S Solitude. As you can tell, it’s very similar to the XM1014 Solitude. The look of the M4A1-S will change a lot depending on the pattern. Chances are, Valve is still testing its ideas for skins, but this time they’re tempting players with a limited item for a more meta and popular weapon. Will Solitude become a hit? Time will tell.

Alongside the new limited skin, a capsule with music kits has been added to the game. There are famous musicians, popular creators, and a wide variety of genres. Probably the most recognizable names in the capsule are Killer Mike from hip-hop duo Run The Jewels and the rock band Ghost. The music kit of the latter shares the same name as their recently released album — Skeleta.

In total, you can get ten different kits:

  • Adam Beyer, Red Room — techno
  • Ghost, Skeleta — hard rock
  • HEALTH, RAT WARS — industrial metal
  • James and the Cold Gun, Chewing Glass — punk, alternative rock
  • Jonathan Young, Starship Velociraptor — video game music
  • Juelz, Floorspace — EDM
  • Killer Mike, MICHAEL — hip-hop
  • PVRIS, Evergreen — indie pop
  • Selective Response, No Love Only Pleasure — techno
  • Tigercub, The Perfume of Decay — alternative rock

The capsule with a regular kit costs $5. If you want the StatTrak version, it’s $8 in the store.

Finally, Valve continues working on optimization and game improvements. In the patch notes, the devs say they’ve improved rendering performance for most maps, and you can now change resolution and aspect ratio in borderless window mode.

They’ve also improved inspect animations for several rifles and knives. Plus, the XM1014 will no longer block your crosshair during reload.

With the update, players have already found some funny bugs. For example, if you die while holding down left click and then buy a weapon in the next round using number keys without letting go of LMB, you can “shoot forever.” The shots don’t register, though — just a harmless and funny glitch.

Dataminers are also digging into possible new features, but it’s too early to talk about that. For now, let’s enjoy the night Ancient!
